On April 3, 2019, New Mexico Democratic Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed Senate Bill 323 into law.
This bill decriminalized adult-use marijuana in the state, permitting adults 18 and over to possess up to a half-ounce of cannabis, punishable by a small fine of $50 rather than jail time. Taking official effect on July 1, 2019, the legislation was the most recent update for the state, which already permitted the use of medical marijuana.

Ready to learn more? Let’s get started!
Let’s begin with a brief look at the history of cannabis in New Mexico.
Before SB 323 took hold, the state had already enacted medical cannabis laws. Established in 2007, these permit qualifying individuals to use cannabis as an alternative, therapeutic treatment to help alleviate symptoms of pain and discomfort.
Patients can possess up to eight ounces of medical cannabis over a 90-day period. They’re also allowed to cultivate up to 16 plants, divided into four mature plants and 12 immature plants.
According to the New Mexico Department of Health, there are currently more than 70,000 patients registered as medical marijuana users.
Now, let’s discuss recreational use.
While recreational marijuana is still illegal in New Mexico, SB 323 reduced the penalties associated with possessing small amounts. If you’re caught with an ounce or less of marijuana, fees could range from $50 to $100. A second offense could result in higher fees or even jail time.
That said, you don’t have to worry about the legalities of buying New Mexico cannabis seeds! They’re considered legal for souvenir purposes, meaning they’re fine for personal possession. In addition, the state’s home cultivation allowances for registered medical marijuana patients mean you can grow up to 16 plants (four mature) at any given time.

How Do I Start Growing Marijuana?Whether you’re a first-time grower or you’re experienced in this field, it helps to understand the proper way to germinate your cannabis seeds. Performing the right steps at the beginning can help you yield a vibrant and healthy crop!
We’re proud to offer an 80% germination guarantee. This means that if you follow the method discussed below and your seeds fail to germinate, we’ll send you enough replacement seeds to ensure that you have at least 80% that do germinate.
How to GerminateFirst, put your seeds in a cup of room-temperature distilled water. Make sure they’re totally covered in water, sinking them down to the bottom of the cup with your fingers. Then, let them soak for 14 to 18 hours.
When the time is up, fold a thick, dye-free paper towel on a plate and pour the seeds (water and all) on top. Fold the paper towel over the seeds to cover them. Then, place the plate in a cool, dark spot and leave them there. Periodically, check to make sure the paper towel is still moist, spritzing it with water if required.
After around two to seven days, the seeds will open and expose their taproots. Once the taproot reaches .5 centimeters to 3/4 of an inch, you can transplant them. If more than a week passes and your seeds do not sprout, you can use the cup method to encourage emergency cultivation.
To do this, drop the seeds into a cup of distilled water. Soak them here until the taproot sprouts! Then, pour the contents onto a paper towel and repeat the same steps, keeping the seeds covered on the plate until the taproot lengthens to 1/2 of an inch.
What Strains of Cannabis Seeds Should I Buy?Each seed we offer in our shop can be categorized as either Sativa-dominant or Indica-dominant. You can also buy strains that have components of each type, called Hybrids.
If you’re looking to consume cannabis to boost your mood or improve your creativity, Sativa strains are ideal. These are great for normal, daytime use, although if you already suffer from anxiety, you may want a more Indica-dominant option.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a high that will help you relax and act as a natural pain reliever, Indica strains are best. These are ideal for nighttime use, though people who suffer from depression should steer clear. A more balanced strain, such as a 50/50 Hybrid, is a go-to choice for people who want to smoke both day and night and not worry about side effects.
In addition to being more flexible and versatile, hybrid strains are also easier to grow thanks to their genetic stability. This makes them perfect for first-time growers who are still developing their green thumbs!
Hybrid Cannabis StrainsSome of our most popular hybrid cannabis strains include:
Hybrid cannabis seeds are also more environment-resistant, meaning they can hold their own against challenging weather conditions. Their survival rates are some of the highest around!
What Autoflower Strains Are Perfect for New Mexico? While feminized seeds, including the hybrid strains listed above, are ideal for first-time growers who want a no-fuss crop, they aren’t your only option. Another great beginner strain is an auto-flowering seed.
Autoflower strains are bred to begin flowering quicker than others. For instance, normal Indica strains might take up to seven to nine weeks after germination to flower and Sativa strains can take between 10 and 16 weeks.
Conversely, autoflower strains start the process much sooner. Keep in mind that in exchange for quickness and convenience, your plant will be a little smaller than a traditional crop, and you’ll also have a smaller yield. Autoflower plants typically do not reach more than two to three feet high.
Still, this is a small price to pay if it means you can start enjoying your crop sooner. Plus, because they don’t take up too much space, you can actually fit more autoflower seeds in a small spot, upping your total number of plants.
