Feminized seeds are a form of marijuana seeds that has made sure that all of the seeds you’re receiving are female. While this of seed isn’t naturally occurring and requires a process of Rodelization to create it, feminized seeds are a wonderful seed to choose if you’re only interested in producing buds.
They’re also a great option to select if you’re really just getting started growing marijuana plants and aren’t interested in learning how to identify male marijuana plants, to ensure the success of your harvest.
Male vs Female Marijuana Plants
Did you know that marijuana plants have a sex? You can identify the sex of your plant by looking in between where the branches and the leaves extend from the stalk of your plant (also referred to as their nodes).
Marijuana seeds are created when the pollen sac on a male marijuana plant spreads pollen to the stigma on a female marijuana plant, which is what catches the pollen. Thankfully, you can identify the sex of your cannabis plants weeks before they’re ready to begin their reproductive cycle.
Known as pre-flowers, you’ll be able to tell the reproductive organs on a marijuana plant when it’s about six weeks old. While it may be difficult with your naked eye, using a small magnifying glass will help to make identifying the organs much easier.
On a male marijuana plant, you’ll see two small sacs that have a similar shape to a tulip. However, on a female marijuana plant, you’ll see two bracts that have white stigma that has a similar appearance to hair.
While there are other ways that you can go about identifying the sex of your marijuana plants, it’s the most beneficial to do so during the pre-flowering stage. This will ensure that you’re able to remove the male plants in time before they begin to pollinate your female plants. Plus, removing the males from your garden will free up space for your female plants to grow larger and stronger!
